Michael Sheen Speaks!

For those of you who don't know, Michael Sheen is the actor who is best known for his roles in Frost/Nixon (David Frost), Underworld 1-3 (Lucian), and now New Moon (Aro).

Recently Mr. Sheen has been interviewed in which he briefly talks about his part in New Moon. The fact that he's talking about New Moon is not why I'm blogging, but what he said in an answer to a question that stuck with me.

Steve Weinstraub:
You mentioned your daughter. You’re quoted in the NY Post as saying she was a little annoyed when you took the part.

Michael Sheen: Right, well, I think she felt a whole combination of emotions. I think she was a bit overwhelmed by the fact that I was going to be in it. I think she was really excited, but, at the same time, I remember what this was like when I was ten, eleven. If there was something I was really into, the last thing I wanted was for my mom and dad to be into it as well. That’s just annoying. So she was very excited and she cried when I first told her about it. I think it was just her fantasy/imaginative world suddenly colliding with her reality. She didn’t know how she felt about it. She punched me I remember and kicked me. I think that was her sort of frustration with me. In fact it was her mother who said, “Is it because that’s your thing and now daddy’s getting in on it?” And she said, “Yes.” So it was her (as usual) very perceptive mother who got that. But then, very quickly, she made peace with that and then she was just very excited about going to the premiere.

Now, what sticks out to you in his reply? What caught my attention was the fact that he brought up what it's like for someone to love something to fantasized and other worldly but then have to deal with reality crashing into it, waking them up.

His daughter was first upset he was taking the role of Aro because she didn't want her daddy involved with a series she loved so much.

Which brings me to a question I ask you. Pick a series of books you absolutely love. Pretend they're made into movies. Pretend one of your siblings, or one of your parents act for their career and portray characters in films all the time. What would your reaction be if one of your siblings or mom or dad suddenly got the part of one of your favorite (or any character for that matter) characters in the movie? Happy? Shocked? Mad? Annoyed? Speechless?

Gives you something to think about, eh?

HAHAHAHAHA! Daddy?? Moma?? Acting?? HAHAHAHAHA!

As for the brothers and sisters thing, I would probably be a little shocked that a fictional character that I pictured in my mind and made up was played by someone I know very well. It's the fact that I would know my brother and/or sister so well that I would be too involved with them. Because during the movie I'll constantly remember what so and so felt about acting out that part, what they were thinking doing this and that, and so on.

For instance, I would maybe find the Twilight movies a little more interesting (they're awesome already) if I could actually believe the feelings between Edward and Bella. But in reality I know too much about the actors and the drama about them and how they don't like each other in a romantic way. I also sometimes think after a scene between them (or other characters) 'I wonder how they felt about that,' or something or other.

I would be a little speechless, probably not knowing whether I believe it or not at first. But if they got the part, I would assume the people casting the movie know what they are doing... so I would just be like, "Kelly, I love you and all, and I think you're a good actress too, but I just want you to know that you had BETTER give this more than your best and not ruin my favorite series for me."

I totally believe movies, and I love believing the stories are really playing out. So it would probably be fine.

Haha. I would probably laugh myself silly. Although I think Heidi would make a great Hermione... Amy could be Harry, and Kelly could be Ron, and Lilly could be Ginny. Davey and Danny could be Fred and George. Daddy could be Voldemort and... Moma could be Dumbledore. Or Hagrid.

*chuckles to self*
